Raymond Hains

description

Exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with show held at the Musée Sainte-Croix, Poitiers, France, April 13 - June 12, 1989. Traveled to the F.R.A.C. Poitou - Charentes, Hôtel Saint - Simon, Angouleme, France, April 13 - May 23, 1989; and P.S. 1 Museum, Long Island City, New York, October - November 1989. In his essay on Raymond Hains, Jacques Ohayon writes that "The world of Raymond Hains is wandering. It trails around between history and geography, word and object, immaterial and visual, ... and spirals in such a way that it flees as soon as one wants to show it, as soon as one tries to speak about it. And the artist himself intends to remain elusive, he clouds the issue, spreads about clues, denies the words reported and he goes so far as to refuse critical interpretations. A real joy in the face of the current conformity in the world of art!" With additional text by Blandine Chavanne, Guy Tortosa, Michel Frizot, and Aude Bodet. Includes chronological biography. Profusely illustrated in black-and-white and color. Parallel text in French and English.
