Exhibition catalogue for exhibition held at Museum Fodor, Amasterdam, March 20 - April 25, 1971. Stedelijk Museum catalogue #499. "Until 1945 painting in Iceland was almost solely comfined to landscapes and portraits. After the Second World War, in September 1945, the so-called Septembermenn introduced abstract into Iceland... In 1965 four Iceland artists : Aranson, Fridfinnsson, Jóhannsson and Sturluson organized an exhibition of their works which were no longer abstract-expressionistic. For the first a kind of pop art and kinetic art was seen in Reykjavik. After this exhibition, which they called 'Sum,' they decided to continue acting together under that name.
