Volume one of two-volume exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with show held at Museum Fridericianum, Kassel, June 12 - September 4, 1988. Traveled to Kunstmuseum Winterthur, September 24 - November 13, 1988; Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, December 17, 1988 - February 5, 1989; Osterreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst, March 16 - May 15, 1989. Second volume is entitled "Viennese Actionism, Vienna 1960 - 1971 : The Shattered Mirror." Volume one presents a collection of images and essays about Viennese action painting and actionism between 1960 and 1965. Includes essays by Viet Loers, Richard Calvocoressi, Peter Noever, and Keith Hartley, as well as an extensive, illustrated chronology of the period by Dieter Schwarz. Artists featured include Hermann Nitsch, Alfons Schilling, Günter Brus, Otto Mühl, Adolf Frohner, and Rudolf Schwarzkogler. Accompanied by bibliography and a list of films, compiled by Peter Kasperak and Dieter Schwarz. Parallel texts in English and German.
