description

Artist's book, which attributed to Laura Carpenter on cover of book, published in conjunction with the show "Jay Chiat and Edouard Merino," held in December 1989. "Insights," is a work by Philippe Thomas; Chiat and Merino are the owners of the photographs in the exhibition, Carpenter is the owner (not author) of the text. Copyright attributed to fictional agency: Readymades Belong to Everyone. [Notes from MoMA's library catalogue entry]. "The pages brought together here give a clear impression of the circumstances under which they were written, so further details are superfluous. Should the reader regret that the information concerning certain facts and details is not more exhaustive, he should remember that it is a common occurrence in everyday life to meet (be it for a moment or for several hours) people whom he will never know as anything more than an expression, a name, or sometimes an opinion. What follows should appear all the more authentic as we have sought to avoid editorial intervention: there are no footnotes and the introduction has been kept to a minimum, thus respecting a form of writing which, practised as it is on a day to day basis, seems to address itself first and foremost to its own author." -- from book's foreword.
