Deciphering America

Michael Gibbs

description

An artists' book compiled by Michael Gibbs, the book is described by Gibbs as"a traveling collection, a record of the artists & poets I met during my first visit to the USA, Canada and Mexico in the summer of 1977. Many of them I knew before, wither personally or through correspondence; others I encountered there for the first time. I asked everyone for work to be published in a book that I had decided to publish after my return to Amsterdam. The book would serve to bring together work from the various artistic/poetic areas that I was involved in, or had stumbled into..." The artists included are: Bruce Andrews, John Baldessari, Anna Banana, Charles Bernstein, Carl Clark, Lowell Darling, Ray Ri Palma, Felipe Ehrenberg, Loris Essary, Jahn Faichney, Albert M. Fine, Peter Frank, Walter Gabrielson, Bill Gaglion, Eldon Garnet, Michael Gibbs, Richard Hayman, Dick Higgins, Bliem Kern, Alison Knowles, Richard Kostelantz, Jill Krosen, Susan Laufer, Jackson Mac Low, Steve McCaffrey, Opal L. Nations, B.P. Nichol, Ricardo Rocha, Jerome Rothenberg, Carolee Schneemann, Ron Silliman, Fred Truck, David Type, and Lawrence Weiner. Includes black-and-white illustrations and text in English.
