description

Program for "Psychedelic Religious Celebration #1 : The Death of the Mind" held on September 20, 1966. "The celebration consisted of images projected on a scrim, music by guitar and zither, and talk by Dr. Leary. 'The myth we use tonight is a voyage, and our voyager is Harry Haller... He lives in New York; he is well educated ...He knows he is missing something... We have formed a religious group. Aldous Huxley warned us that the powers released by LSD would have to be socialized in a new form... The motto we have chosen is 'Turn On, Tune In, and Drop Out.' -- synopsis of article in The New Yorker, October 1, 1966, pp. 42.
