Yoko Ono

A BOX OF SMILE Y.O. '71

description

Originally produced in conjunction with the exhibition "This is Not Here," held at the Everson Museum, Syracuse, New York in 1971, "A Box of Smile" is an authorized continuation of the Fluxus edition produced between 1971 and 1978. The multiple was originally published by Fluxus Editions and produced by George Maciunas until his death. All plastic boxes were produced in 1971, and gold-stamped on top of box "A BOX OF SMILE Y.O. '71" Copies produced by ReFlux utilize the remaining boxes from the 1971 production run and were completed in 1984 by the insertion of a new glass mirror. ReFlux copies are stamped "ReFlux" to distinguish from the earlier collations. In addition to copies produced by Fluxus and ReFlux, Yoko Ono also produced copies in variant materials. Copies produced before 1978 are also distinguished by having a metal mirror rather than a glass mirror which the later copies incorporate. Additionally the multiple was issued in two versions -- one each in black plastic and white plastic.
