description

11-volume boxed set of DVDs of new videoworks commissioned and produced by Bick Productions (Ilene Kurtz Kretzschmar and Caroline Bourgeois) and The New Museum of Contemporary Art, published in conjunction with show held at The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, February 27 – April 11, 2004, and presented as "The first commercially available anthology of the moving image in contemporary art." -- New Museum. Artists include: Francis Alys, David Claerbout, Douglas Gordon, Gary Hills, Pierre Huyghe, Joan Jonas, Isaac Julien, William Kentridge, Paul McCarthy, Pipilotti Rist, and Anri Sala. Each DVD contains the commissioned video work, an interview between either Dan Cameron, Hans Ulrich Obrist, or Richard Meyer, a biography, and images of the artists other artworks. Artists produced the work for this boxed edition with the understanding that the work would be widely distributed, declining to follow the scarcity model of pricing and editioning that most other video art up to that time had followed. The first 250 pre-orders of the boxed set included a limited edition signed and numbered photogragh by Anri Sala.
