description

Exhibition catalogue for show held November 15 - December 21, 1969. Exhibition conceived by Ronald Hunt. "The cultural history of this century will be reassessed to a large extent. While we persistently look in our usual way the decisive events happen the other way or on another level. Art history has traditionally regarded sculpture and painting as the main means of expression of visual art. (the representatives of the art market have eagerly supported this point.) But for some time it has become clear that a significant 'dematerialization' of art is taking place. A work of art can be born and disappear within a few weeks or destroy itself in a few hours..." -- from Pontus Hultén's preface. "The title of this exhibition is taken from Lautréamont and Marx respectively; it indicates the basic themes and links radical art and revolutionary politics. With this union the traditional notion of art often seems to disappear, and the concept of politics take on an added dimension." -- from Hunt's introduction. Exhibition melded works ranging from Malangai-mask fro Iatmual people, New Guinea; Malevich, Tatlin, Dali, Marcel Jean, E.L.T. Mesens, Meret Oppenheim, Wolfgang Paalen, Luis Bunel, Dziga Vertov, Rodchenko, and others. Extensive texts in English and Swedish.
