Air Condition

description

Artists book documenting with image and text instructions for a "privacy piece." "Treating the body as a monitor of physical events is actually a way of perceiving the self, its feelings and multiple identities. Air Condition is a 'privacy piece' meant for an individual alone, which was carried out by seven persons in the hills around the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, in October of 1973. The photos reproduced her are not documents. They are illustrations accompanying the verbal program and are intentionally neutral in order not to confuse 'program' with subjective experience. Together such text-picture linkages can be read and enacted as the equivalent of a film scenario or football game plan." -- artists' statement
