description

Brochure / catalogue published in conjunction with "Critic's Choice 1969 - 70," which invited 300 art students from across New York State into the art studios of Friedel Dzubas, Leon Golub, Stanley Landsman, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Morris, Philip Pearlstein, Sylvia Stone, Jack Tworkov and William T. Williams. Introduction by Irving Sandler, visiting critic in visual arts. Includes biographies of the artists and critic. "Critic's Choice - a program in which university art students from all parts of New York State visit artists' studios in New York City - aims to provide a bridge between the creative environment and the teaching situation. Each year SUNY's University-Wide Committee on the Arts and gthe New York State Council on the Arts invite a critic to select a group of artists to participate in the program. The program includes two days of studio visits which are conducted on an informal but systematic basis. Students are encouraged to ask questions and initiate discussion. The third day is devoted to a symposium, which in 1969 was held at Judson Memorial Church with Irving Sandler moderating and several of the artists participating. To broaden the impact of each year's program and carry it directly to university campuses, an exhibition of participating artists is subsequently shown in art galleries at several campuses in the State. In addition, the critic and some artists visit these and other university campuses to lecture and discuss the artists and their work." --from catalogue text.
