Set of documents issues by the Art Worker's Coalition [AWC], the artists participating in the exhibition "The New American Painting and Sculptures: The First Generation" held June 18 - October 5, 1969, and The Museum of Modern Art. Includes: AWC reply to included letters (June 15 1969); letter from Barnett Newman "To Whom It May Concern" (June 11, 1969); letter to William Rubin signed by 10 artists in the exhibition (June 11, 1969), Alfonso Ossorio, Herbert Ferber, Adolph Gottlieb, Peter Grippe, Philip Guston, Seymour Lipton, Robert Motherwell, Theodore Roszak, Mark Rothko, Mrs. and Ad Reinhardt; official MoMA press release in reply to AWC "Errata" (June 11, 1969); "Errata," an AWC handbill (June 15, 1969); and cover letter from AWC, sent to all artists in the exhibition (June 8, 1969). Artists in the exhibition were asked to donate their artwork to the Museum rather than loan it to the museum or have the museum purchase it.
