Bingo Blues

description

45 RPM vinyl record artist's project by Aleksandra Mir, published by Transmission Gallery, Glasgow, in 1998. Produced in an edition of 1000, half of which were destroyed when Transmission Gallery's basement flooded. Design by Valerie Wagner who studied Graphic Design at the School of Visual Arts with Mir and who went on to become an art director for Atlantic Records. "Northern Blues, the melancholy sound of a bingo hostess's voice broadcast to the street. A slice of life, this vinyl single depicts three minutes of Bingo hostess Angela McCulloch's 20-hour working week, calling out colors and numbers with exceptional clarity and the inherent beat that she has developed on the job. Side two, Big Buck$ Solo, plays the sounds of the Big Buck$ slot machine, a Japanese-made, Vegas-style classic that randomly composes its pre-recorded sounds as long as it is fed money. This particular tune is the sound of me losing £40 in five minutes." -- artist's statement.
