History of New York's SoHo [South of Houston] district, where galleries and artists lived and existed in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s before they were priced out of the neighborhood. While the book doesn't touch on the radical real estate changes of the 90s it does dissect the formative element that lead to the development of the area and how the artists changed a derelict manufacturing district to a vital community for the arts.
