With short text in parallel English / German; original German by the artist, translated by Ann Wilson. "The title of this work is basically as much of a fake as are the newspaper clippings collected here. This is not a collection of imitations of artworks, but rather of reproductions which at first glance strike one as works by particular contemporary artists. But these works could only be designated fakes if they represent works not yet made by the artist, since the artists in question are still living. These fakes therefore precede their originals and have, so to speak, out-distanced them. Therefore, one could possibly confuse these reproductions of artworks which the respective artist did not make with his actual work, or one might find oneself giving credit to a particular artist for having created one or another of these pieces." -- Ernest Carmelle, artist's statement. Illustrated in black-and-white.
