Statements is a perfect simulation of Lawrence Weiner's first artist's book. Wrapped in green paper, and carefully titled and priced in pencil by hand, Sullivan's Statements holds the same footprint and width as the Weiner book. Whereas Weiner's book is a compendium of his earliest works, or statements, Sullivan's book is filled with blank pages to impose the weight of the original - but not the innate substance. Sullivan deftly plays homage to the original article, now a precious title, and recreates a ghost of the object to fill in place for either the collector who has everything, or the collector who needs to fill the void where Statements could belong if funds or availability were willing.
