Transparency, Reflection, Light, Space : Four Artists

description

Exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with show held January 11 - February 14, 1971. "This exhibition was conceived as an opportunity for four artists to employ space as they saw fit. In the outcome, the works displayed served as liaison between the artists and the spaces they chose to animate. Peter Alexander showed vertical strips of color grouped to represent a unit of experience; Larry Bell planned a single transparent object in a darkened room; Robert Irwin 'activated a space perceptually with as little event or object as possible'; Craig Kauffman showed three objects, one created directly on the wall. In this publication the Galleries are equally self-effacing. The artists were interviewed by myself in the thought that self-criticism is mire interesting than criticism." -- Fredrick S. Wright's forward to catalogue. Catalogue features individual interviews with the artists. The responses to Wright's questions to Larry Bell lacks vowels. Wright notes "It is my opinion that vowels were deleted intentionally." Illustrations of artists and installations. Biographies, exhibition histories, bibliographies.
