Shooting a Script

Carl Andre

Shooting a Script

description

A series of stories reporting a shooting that took place in Waco, Texas on April 1, 1898. From title page : " SHOOTING A SCRIPT / 18 PARTS 96 CLIPS / 7 SHOTS PER CLIP / 6 P M APRIL 1 1898 / WACO TEXAS / CARL ANDRE © 2000."

Reviewed in Art on Paper, May-June 2002, pp. 87, by Joe Fyfe : "Shooting a Script... combine[s] testimonies from 17 witnesses to a shooting in Wacho, Texas, in 1898. Here, he privileges sentences, spaced widely apart, stretched out across the horizontal pages like prairie wind. As in [his] other poems, the narrative is derived from an epical fragment of the history of the New World and contains the same tension beneath the calm that is characteristic of all of Andre's work."
